Hewett Comprehensive became Norfolk's first Foundation Trust School in May 2009, and has around 2000 pupils between the ages of 12 and 18.

Challenge

With theft a common problem in every school, Hewett Comprehensive wanted to replace its metal lockers with a newer type which would be more durable and resistant to break in attempts.

Solution

Action Storage supplied Hewett School with 249 eXtreme plastic lockers®. Made from hardened polypropylene, the eXtreme® locker's hinges can withstand up to 3200N without breaking and it's resistant to break in attempts from a claw hammer.

Challenge

School lockers have to be able to withstand a lot of punishment. They have to be resistant to collisions from heavy school bags, books and PE kit being thrown into them, as well as able to withstand break in attempts by thieves.

Many of Hewitt Comprehensive School's metal lockers had deteriorated significantly over the years, with numerous dents, and many had broken doors which no longer closed or locked properly. Rather than simply replace them with the same type of locker, Hewett School wanted to upgrade their storage facilities with lockers which would be more durable and offer the best possible security against thieves.

Having bought storage equipment from Action Storage before, Hewett School contacted us to find out if we had any new locker ranges which would do the job.

Solution

Action Storage's eXtreme® lockers are made from hardwearing polypropylene plastic, which offers numerous unique advantages over conventional metal lockers, including being waterproof, more hygienic and longer lasting.

Action Storage sent Hewett School a sample locker to assess its unique benefits. After receiving the school's approval, Action Storage arranged delivery of 249 eXtreme plastic lockers®. It was crucial that the lockers were delivered on schedule to ensure they could be installed and ready in time for the new term. 

Thanks to high stock levels stored in the warehouse, Action Storage was able to get the full order of 249 eXtreme lockers® delivered on time so that the school's maintenance team could install them during the summer holidays.

Benefits

Hewett School was delighted with the smart, bright appearance of the eXtreme® lockers, which they said have enhanced the general appearance of its corridors. It was also pleased with the enhanced security and hardwearing durability of the eXtreme lockers®. Hewett School was so pleased, in fact, that it plans on increasing its order to an additional 200 lockers.

The project also provided a great opportunity for Action Storage to showcase its high service levels, as well as its innovative products. Hewett School required a large quantity of eXtreme lockers® delivered within a limited timeframe. Thanks to its expertise in managing large installation projects, Action Storage was able to fulfil the order on time and pupils were greeted with bright new plastic storage lockers at the start of the new school term.
